Welcome to Gridlock!

Welcome to Gridlock!, the unofficial simulation of the United States Congress. The goal of Gridlock! is to pass a bill through Congress. To do so, you must gather support in Congressional committes, both chambers of the Congress, and finally with the President.

It is the year 2020. Congress is closely divided between the two big parties, the Perpetual Polyanna Party (aka Polyannas) and the Nattering Nabobs of Negativity (aka Nabobs). The Polyannas are strong in the South and West; the Nabob strongholds are in the Northeast and Midwest. In this game, you play the role of two characters, Bubba Cobb and Walthingham Rodgers III. Bubba is a member of the House of Representatives from Arkansas and a Polyanna; Walthingham is a Nabob and a member of the Senate from Rhode Island. Together, you are working on a bipartisan measure to provide universal health insurance to cats, called the Feline Universal Medical Insurance Act (FUMIA).

At right, you see a description of where the bill currently is, and what amendments are available to add to the bill. You can add an amendment to the bill by clicking on the checkboxes. Support for the bill is shown at the far right. When you are done in one part of Congress, click the VOTE button to continue to the next step in the process of making a bill into a law.
